Here is a list of the potential parts you could auditions for, with a link to the audition script for each:
KATHY, a girl of about 13. She is an orphan, and has plenty of spirit and a mind of her own. Script
AMELIA SNIZZLE, a middle-aged woman. She is a nag and a bully. She has a disagreeable face — and a very unpleasant nature. Script
SAMUEL SNIZZLE, a middle-aged cooper. He is a bully and a coward, with shifty eyes. No one would be surprised to discover he was also once a sneak-thief and burglar. Script
BLACK BILL BLUSTER, a large, black-bearded sea captain with a voice like thunder. He has a blustering and overbearing manner to everyone, coupled with a very bad temper — about which he is sensitive. Script
MICHAEL, a boy of about 15. He is shy and unsure of himself. He tries hard but never seems able to do anything right. He is rather earnest and cautious, but not nearly the coward he thinks himself. Script
MATEY, Black Bill’s mate. He is small, furtive and piratical. He is also not very bright, and is very scared of Black Bill. Script
THE STRANGER, a young man, handsome and friendly, with a great deal of charm, and a good-humoured air. Script
THE SERGEANT, a middle-aged, bewhiskered Sergeant of Militia. Script
SAILOR, SOLDIER (these are minor/chorusline parts)

About the Play

In 1948, Eleanor Witcomb wrote a play for the Mosman Children's Theatre. It was a pantomime style script about pirates and whalers set in the old whaling station in Mosman Bay. Titled "Pirates at the Barn", it has been reproduced many times since the 1st Mosman Cubs were involved in the very first performance at Mosman Town Hall.

Now the play is in it's 60th year, the 1st Mosman 1908 Scout Group are looking to create the magic again with our own version of the play - appearing for the first time in the very building it is set. Over the last weekend of August, the youth members of the Group will take on the roles for the pleasure of family, friends and invited guests as part of our centenary celebrations.

Script Synopsis

^ top

The play is set in two acts focusing on the deeds of two children who live in Archibold Mosman's 1840's whaling station. The children attempt to aid an investigation into piracy on the high seas and are soon in plenty of trouble, as much from their harsh aunt as from a band of nasty pirates! The play is suitable for children of all ages.
